Vimshottari Dasha
विंशोत्तरी दशा — The 120-Year Cycle
Vimshottari Dasha is the most widely used planetary period system in Vedic astrology. It divides a person's life into planetary periods (Dashas) totalling 120 years. Each planet rules a specific period, and during that time, the planet's qualities and the houses it rules dominate your life experience.
How Vimshottari Dasha is Calculated
Find Moon's Nakshatra
The Nakshatra (birth star) occupied by Moon at birth determines which Dasha you are born in.
Calculate Balance
The portion of the first Dasha already elapsed is calculated based on Moon's exact position within the Nakshatra.
Follow the Cycle
After the birth Dasha completes, the remaining Dashas follow in the fixed order: Ketu → Venus → Sun → Moon → Mars → Rahu → Jupiter → Saturn → Mercury
Sub-Periods (Antar)
Each Maha Dasha contains 9 sub-periods (Antar Dasha) from all 9 planets in the same order, proportional to their years.

Fourth level. Used for precise timing of daily events and situations.
